BMW NBT EVO CarPlay and map update: choose the correct method

This combined service is for compatible BMW F- and G-Series vehicles with an NBT EVO ID5 or ID6 head unit. It includes CarPlay activation and a navigation map update, but the installation method depends on the actual NBTevo firmware, Wi-Fi hardware and map region. Send the VIN privately before ordering.

Step 1: confirm that the head unit is NBT EVO

Cars built after July 2016 may use NBT EVO, but the production date alone is not proof. Open the navigation version screen and check the map family. An EVO map name is a strong indicator; VIN and diagnostic identification provide the final check. Menu appearance can be misleading after a theme or software conversion.

Step 2: read the firmware letter

In iDrive, open Navigation, press the Options button, then go to Settings, Position & Version History and Version Information. The NBTevo letter determines the normal activation path:

• NBTevo H through O: the compatible activation can normally be supplied as a USB procedure.
• NBTevo P and later: activation normally requires an ENET cable and a remote laptop session.
• Full-screen CarPlay: generally requires NBTevo N or later. Earlier H-M versions normally remain split-screen unless a separate firmware upgrade is suitable.

Step 3: check Wi-Fi hardware

CarPlay software activation does not add missing Wi-Fi hardware. The head unit may accept activation data without an antenna, but the phone cannot establish the intended wireless connection until compatible Wi-Fi hardware is present. We can check the factory equipment from the VIN and explain what is still required.

Step 4: match the navigation region

The map package and FSC authorization must match the vehicle's navigation family and requested region. Tell us the current map version and the country or region you need. Delivery is digital by email and normally includes a download link, instructions and the compatible FSC code; no USB drive is shipped.

What to prepare

• The full VIN and a photo of the navigation version screen
• A suitable USB drive for USB-based work, or an ENET cable for a remote session
• A Windows 10/11 laptop or compatible Mac when remote work is required
• Stable internet and stable vehicle voltage

Android screen mirroring and Video in Motion availability depends on hardware, software and the selected package. Video must never distract the driver and may be used only where legally permitted. Future dealer programming can change third-party activations.
