BMW MGU CarPlay and Android Auto activation: compatibility first

This remote service is intended for compatible BMW vehicles equipped with an MGU head unit running iDrive 7 or iDrive 8. It can enable Apple CarPlay and Android Auto without replacing the head unit, but compatibility must be confirmed from the actual vehicle before purchase.

Please send the full VIN privately before ordering. The model and production year alone are not enough. We check the installed MGU version, software level and the required WLAN/Wi-Fi hardware.

What we verify before the remote session

• The vehicle is fitted with a supported MGU head unit.
• The installed iDrive software is suitable for the requested activation.
• The unit has the hardware required for wireless phone connectivity.
• There are no existing communication or iDrive faults that should be repaired first.

Common applications include G-series vehicles such as G20, G22, G30, G32, G11, G14/G15/G16, G01, G02, G05, G06, G07 and G29, together with selected later i3 and i8 vehicles. This is an orientation list, not a compatibility guarantee; the VIN check remains decisive.

What you need

• A Windows 10 or Windows 11 laptop
• AnyDesk installed and ready
• A reliable ENET-to-OBD cable and, when needed, an Ethernet adapter
• A stable internet connection
• Stable vehicle voltage throughout the session

The work is completed remotely. When the laptop, cable and vehicle are ready, the activation itself commonly takes about 20 minutes, although connection quality and the vehicle software can change the total time.

How the session works

1. You send the VIN so that compatibility can be checked before payment.
2. At the agreed time, connect the laptop to the vehicle with the ENET cable.
3. We connect through AnyDesk, identify the MGU unit and apply the compatible configuration.
4. After the iDrive restarts, we pair a phone and verify connection, audio and reconnection.

Do not disconnect the ENET cable, close the laptop or switch off the vehicle while work is in progress. If the battery is weak or the car has active electrical faults, the session should be postponed.

Important limitations

Software activation cannot add missing Wi-Fi hardware, repair a faulty MGU unit or guarantee that a future dealer programming session will leave every third-party configuration unchanged. BMW and MINI trademarks belong to BMW AG; BimXcoding is an independent service provider.
